2021 Heart Tug Challenge

What is a Heart Tug?  Apparently, I say this quite often (according to friends of mine), and it seemed appropriate to call the SONLIT blog spot “Heart Tugs”.  So, what is a Heart Tug?

It is a “prompting” from inside us.  It reminds us to do something. It motivates us into action!

Or at the very least, into a moment of deep thought and contemplation.

Sure, you can call it a suggestion, encouragement, hint, prodding, cue, incitement, motivation, an urging, God-wink, directive… or so many other things.  Like it or not, on our daily path in our journey of life, we all have them.

How do they present themselves to you?   Are they a “gut feeling?”  Your mind keeps bringing up the same person?  Reminders (both physical and emotional triggers) leave you missing the last 10 minutes wondering, “Where did I just go?”

Heart Tugs, make you STOP and pay attention, don’t they?

The question is:  Do you pay attention to them?  Or do you doubt their validity and just move on with being busy?  Saying, “I’ll think about that later” or “I have got to remember to call him/her.”

One of my favorite quotes of all time came from a seasonal friend of mine: “Doubt takes you out of Action; Action takes you out of Doubt” – William Hamilton.  This quote serves Heart Tugs as aptly as it does for business and relationship issues/decisions.  Perhaps, even more important…  why?  I would argue it is from God.  HE wants you to pay attention, right now!  HE is saying one of three things:  LISTEN, BE STILL or ACT.

Perhaps you are just running too fast and the Heart Tug is directing you to:

Notice the same letters formulate SILENT and LISTEN.  Coincidence, I do not think so.  When this happens during a day, try to get STILL, right now, and be SILENT & LISTEN.  God has something for you, right now.  Guarantee it!  Give it a try.

Would you accept a SONLIT Heart Tug New Year Challenge?

How about acting this year on our Heart Tugs?  Will you join me on this mission?  Are you in?

For years now, I have been paying attention to Heart Tugs. I still miss many, and I am far from perfect.  But I am on the path, and my Heart for others has grown in the process.  Here are a few factors that I have noticed work for me as I strive to be more mindful of Heart Tug moments:

  • Make sure to have enough margin in your day/schedule to be able to see/feel the Heart Tugs that come along. This is easier said than done.  But once the rewards of Heart Tugs begin to reshape the best moments in your day, you will find the margin and you will slow down intentionally, desiring more.
  • Keep a journal or your phone notes handy, to keep a record of this moment.
  • If the Heart Tug is about a person.  STOP and make that call, right now!  Leave a message or text if you must.  Reach out and let this person know that they are on your Heart, right now… you are not sure why, but want to be true to the spirit of the Heart Tug.    (These never go wrong!  Many times, I have noticed these are Emergency/911 Heart Tug moments.) Yes, it might be a tough time for the person right now and they need a listener, a prayer, or just encouragement that someone cares.

Will you accept the SONLIT 2021 Heart Tug challenge?  Let us know in the comment section below with a note that “you’re in!”  Please email me a Heart Tug story from time to time.  We are thrilled to have you join us on this 2021 Heart Tug expedition.
